Last weekend was full of holiday parties, birthday parties and running - crazy running in the city whilst snowing in a sea of over 11,000 people. Never again people - never again. Until next year because all proceeds went to the Arthritis foundation and if you didn't know my mother suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis (or RA as it is now referred) for as long as I can remember.
Anyway, the whole family was excited for this run because it offered a 1K kids run (that is .6 miles for those of you needing to convert to mileage). Saturday just happened to be one of the worst nights I have ever experienced in my whole 3 years as a parent. Sure the sleepless nights with a newborn were painful but our babies would wake, eat, change and go back to sleep - mind you that happened every 2-3 hours but still there was some sleeping occurring. Saturday night, Kyan decided he didn't need sleep and he would just be awake. This would have been okay if had stayed in his bed but he came into our bed at midnight - tossed and turned until I had Bob put him back to his bed at 2:30am. For the next hour and half he kept coming into our bed quickly being escorted back to his bed - finally falling asleep around 4 am.
Now that kind of night may not sound awful but when 6am rolls around and you have get up and run - it makes for a rough race. Funny thing is Kyan sprang to his feet the moment I got him up - I believe he couldn't sleep because of the anticipation - you know like the night before school starts and you can't sleep no matter how many times you count backwards from 100.
Did I mention it snowed during the race?
Did I mention that my son loves to run in shorts?
Did I mention he would not leave the house in anything but shorts?
Thank gawd for long johns!
Have I mentioned how serious my son is about racing?

Kyan is going to grow up and be such an awesome person. Only a person who truly believes in themself and likes who they are, can go out to run in an outfit that was quite a combination and then go to a party in the same outfit. Kyan is such a wonderful little boy. The great thing is that I believe he is as cool as he thinks he is.

My favorite part of the race was singing jingle bells in the express lanes- I mean that is something you just don't get to do. But being in a tunnel with too many people not my idea of a good time!! Lets hope the next race actually lets us document an actual time- I need to know if I've improved my time.
I'm so proud that we are still running :O)
